Do you ever wish you had your phone with you all the time but in a smaller form factor and may be strapped to your wrist? Well, a smartwatch is exactly that. Smartwatches have been on the rise in the recent past and while people are torn about their use case, one thing everyone can agree on is that they are, well, cool.
Smartwatches in my personal opinion don’t make a lot of sense unless it’s an apple watch but my use case is very different from yours and maybe a smartwatch is just what you need to untangle the hot mess that is your daily life and allow you to work more efficiently.
A perfect smartwatch in the current scenario doesn’t exist, but a smartwatch that will suit your use case sure does. Today we will be taking a look at some of the best smartwatches you can get for your specific use case and why you should or should not buy it.
The Best SmartWatch in India 2018 for Apple Users - Apple Watch
If you are an apple user, you are in luck. If there is a smartwatch worth buying it is from Apple, nothing even comes close to the Apple watch and with the new 4th generation apple watch Apple just changed the game altogether. The apple watch while being a tech accessory is a fashion statement in itself and can take down all the MKs and DWs of the world without breaking a sweat. The watch runs the aptly named Apple Watch OS and is sadly only compatible with Apple devices running IOS which makes it very restrictive in nature but if you are already a part of the Apple ecosystem the only smartwatch that makes sense is the apple watch.
It comes in 2 sizes to suit both small and big hands, has an LTE variant which allows users to make and receive calls from the watch itself and has SIRI which allows you to do your bidding through just voice commands, it doesn’t always work effectively though, the battery is large enough to last you about 2 days but the downside of having a smartwatch is having to charge an extra device almost every night but thankfully the Apple watch comes with a wireless charger.
While the Apple watch series 3 is currently the most popular version out there, the series 4 brings in changes so drastic that I can’t recommend it enough over its predecessor. The Series 4 brings in a newer design and the ability to take echocardiogram (ECG) by holding down on the crown of the watch. It even has better activity tracking built in, so grab a pair right here.

Alternative Mention - Apple Watch Series 3 (Older generation, cheaper price)
The Best SmartWatch in India 2018 for Android Users - Samsung Gear S3 Frontier Edition
The Gear S3 is basically the best smartwatch you can get for Android. It’s no Apple watch but it’s no slob either; A striking design, long lasting battery, and rugged looks are what makes the Gear S3 unique. The Gear S3 runs Tizen OS, Samsung’s own OS for watches, it is compatible with both IOS and Android devices but the experience will definitely be better on Android.
The design is fairly rugged and outdoorsy but not overpoweringly so, you can wear this to a hiking expedition as well as to a board meeting. The watch is also IP68 certified for dust and water resistance. On the feature front, it is quite standard, an inbuilt GPS, Heart rate sensor, pedometer etc are all present per usual.
A welcome addition is Samsung pay which comes standard, Samsung pay is widely accepted and allows you to not carry your wallet to pay for things, the rotating dial used to interact with the watch is also very intuitive to use. The battery again drawing parallels to the Apple watch lasts about 2 days and wireless charging is standard as well. The Gear S3 is your best bet if you are part of the Android ecosystem and want an actually usable smartwatch. Grab one right here.

Alternative Mention - Samsung Galaxy Watch (Life is always better with options)
The Best SmartWatch in India 2018 for The Adventurer - Casio ProTrek
The Protrek is the ultimate watch for the adventurers out there, it is the most rugged of the lot, isn’t too fancy to use and runs Android Watch OS. The watch boasts of a very accurate inbuilt GPS which you can use if your phone died on you while you were still on your excursion, the GPS has a few other special tricks up its sleeve as well and an offline map can be downloaded for ease of use.
The watch also has moment setter which notifies you about things like sunsets and sunrises along with other things like tide information etc. There’s also the dual display layers present on the phone so when the battery runs down you can demote the smartwatch to a dumb one to ensure you don’t miss out on the crucial information like time, date and day.
What the ProTrek lacks though is a heart rate sensor, a decent sized battery and the portability of a regular watch, all these shortcomings have been present since the first generation of the watch and still haven’t been fixed.
What the watch lacks in features it more than makes all of it up in ruggedness, you can dunk the watch in sea water and it still wouldn’t die on you, provided you rinse it with fresh water soon after (I wouldn’t recommend it but you technically can do it).
This watch isn’t for the regular people out there and at the price it comes with, only the few hardcore and dedicated outdoorsy folks would even consider this as a viable option. If you aren’t one of those, I recommend you continue reading but If you are one of those grab yours right here.

The Best SmartWatch in India 2018 for Fitness Enthusiasts - Fitbit Ionic
The Ionic is the flagship fitness smartwatch Fitbit offers if you are someone who is into fitness this is the watch to buy. Hiking, running, cycling, swimming you name it and Fitbit can track it. The GPS inside is one of the best and is accurate to the tee, with all these features you’d expect to charge the watch every day but Fitbit has squeezed in a bigger battery so the watch easily lasts 4 days on a single charge.
If you are someone who’s into music then you’d be delighted to know that you can download and store about 300 songs on the Ionic. The looks on the watch are quite fashionable too so you won’t feel like you have worn a plain and boring fitness tracker.
Grab it here before it runs out.

Alternative Mention - Huami Amazfit Stratos
The Best SmartWatch in India 2018 for Fitness Enthusiasts on a budget - Huami Amazfit Bip
All the watches on this list have been considerably expensive like any nascent technology and being an early adapter to tech does require a steep tax but the Amazefit Bip isn’t one that will require half a kidney to buy. The watch is priced very modestly and boasts of nearly all the features other watches on the list have. It may not be as accurate as others but the functionality existing at such a low price point is no less than a miracle.
There is a 1.3-inch display up top and the design is fairly reminiscent of the pebble time or the Apple watch, the watch looks very subtle and stealthy and will go very well with formals as well as casual clothes. The straps are interchangeable and the one that comes with the watch is made of soft touch silicone which makes it great for extended periods of usage. The watch is rated for IP 68 so it is dust and water resistant too. There is built in GPS which helps with tracking, a magnetic sensor to act as a compass, a heart rate sensor for obvious reasons and to track activities there’s an accelerometer as well.
The watch runs the proprietary operating system and is fairly snappy but basic. The watch essentially has all the basic features anyone would need but so does the Mi Band 3 but what you get with the Amazefit Bip is the smartwatch form factor as well as the novelty of a smartwatch and at a price of around Rs. 5500, I can’t complain. The battery too lasts up to 30 days which is the best on this list.
